The Reverend Benjamin Christian Zimmermann was born to American LCMS missionary teacher parents in Shasi, Hupeh, China during the years of the American Volunteer Group (Flying Tigers). He was interned in Shanghai as a PWO by the Japanese Imperial Army before the age of three during World War II. He was hijacked and held hostage, interned in Beirut by Islamic Hezbollah terrorists at age 45 (TWA 847). He later retired from the USAF and Trans World Airlines (TWA) as a pilot and also from the Idaho Legislature as a State Representative. Reverend Zimmermann served as an Independent teacher in Guangzhou, Guangdong, China from 2005 to 2011 which included five years as a full-time professor in the School of Foreign Studies at SCNU. He also developed the "Chinese Volunteer Group, the Teaching Tigers, which provides Chinese language instruction free to Idaho school children in conjunction with Northwest Nazarene University in Nampa, Idaho.

After serving Pilgrim for a year as Vacancy Pastor, the Congregation issued a regular call for him to serve Pilgrim as their full-time Pastor. Pilgrim Luthern Church is proud Reverend Zimmermann accepted that Call.
